Gift to Promote Use of Special Collections, Digital Resources

Dr. Arthur W. Hafner, Dean of University Libraries, announced a significant gift to the University Libraries from Mr. Martin D. Schwartz, retired Muncie businessman and philanthropist.

The gift of $175,000 will be used to create the Helen B. and Martin D. Schwartz Special Collections and Global Digital Complex in Bracken Library.

This important gift is due to the work of John B. Straw, supported by Dean Hafner, Vice President of Development Ben E. Hancock, and Vice President for Planned Giving/Endowment Stewardship Philip M. Purcell from the Ball State University Foundation.

Dr. Hafner said, “This collaboratorium space of about 2,450 square feet in Bracken Library will connect students and faculty to the diverse special collections and digital resources of the Ball State University Libraries. Students will have easier access to signature digital collections globally. The digital complex will serve Ball State University as an innovative, collaborative, flexible, and interactive learning and teaching environment in Bracken Library for fostering an undergraduate research culture.” Work on this project is expected to begin in March 2008.
